SERVICE PROCEDURE 1. Remove the fuel pump assembly from the vehicle and place it in a clean working area. • • Refer to section FL in the applicable Service Manual for removal information. Make sure to follow all Service Manual warnings and cautions. 2. At the top of the fuel pump assembly, disconnect the brown connector. 3. Unwind the harness. 4. Remove the fuel gauge sender unit from the fuel pump assembly as follows: a. Press in on the lock tab. b. Slide the sender unit off. c. Unclip the fuel temperature sensor. 5. Install the new fuel level sender unit in reverse order. Make sure: • Sender connector and fuel pump connector are securely connected. •
Fuel pump harness and sender harness are wrapped / twisted together. • Sender and temp sensor wires are inside guide clip. • Sender unit is locked in place. • Temp sensor is clipped in place. CAUTION: Do not bend the float arm when handling the new fuel gauge sender unit. 6. Carefully reinstall the fuel pump assembly back into the fuel tank. IMPORTANT: • Use a new seal (O-Ring). • Make sure the fuel pump assembly is installed straight down into the tank as shown in Figure 5. • DO NOT allow the fuel pump assembly to shift from center as shown in Figure 6. DO NOT allow shift from center. 7. Install the fuel pump assembly lock ring as follows: a. Place the fuel pump assembly locating tab between the lock ring holders. b. Place the lock ring on top of the fuel pump assembly. c. Insert a pocket screwdriver between the fuel pump assembly plastic locating tab and the lock ring holder as shown in Figure 8. NOTE: The pocket screwdriver will hold the plastic locating tab to the left (counterclockwise) while turning the lock ring to the right (clockwise). Locating tab under lock ring (shown by dotted line) Lock ring d. Hold the pocket screwdriver in place while installing / tightening the lock ring. NOTE: • Use Special Tool J-45722 to install the lock ring. • DO NOT use an impact wrench to install the lock ring. • The pocket screwdriver will hold the plastic locating tab to the left (counterclockwise) while turning the lock ring to the right (clockwise). e. Once the lock ring is in the locked position remove the pocket screwdriver.

Note: for 2003 and 2004 applied vehicles: when you perform procedure c (ecm reprogramming), go to ntb06-051a for reprogramming information. You will still need to perform all other parts of this bulletin on 2003 and 2004 applied vehicles. Introduction nissan has determined that some 2002-2003 model year altima and 2002-2004 model year sentra vehicles equipped with the 2.5 liter engine have defects that relate to motor vehicle safety. For 2002-2003 model year altimas, there is a possibility that the exhaust pipe hanger pin may catch debris from the road that could be ignited by contact with the catalytic converter and cause a fire. In addition, for 2002-2003 model year altimas and 2002-2004 model year sentras, there is a possibility that certain engine operating conditions may cause damage to the pre-catalyst. Material from inside a damaged pre-catalyst could enter the engine and result in increased oil consumption. If the engine oil level is not checked on a periodic basis and drops below the low level, and the driver continues to operate the vehicle ignoring noticeable engine noise, engine damage may occur which could result in a fire.
Identification number nissan has assigned identification number r3007/r3014/r3015/r3016/r3017 to this campaign. These numbers must appear on all communications and documentation of any nature dealing with this campaign. Overview of repair exhaust pipe hanger pin: • the exhaust pipe hanger pin is shortened on 2002-03 altima, except those that were already repaired. This repair is not necessary on sentra vehicles. (this repair may be needed only if the pnc code is r3007.) ecm reprogramming / pre-catalyst / exhaust heat shields: • ecm reprogramming is required to prevent future damage to the pre-catalyst. A special reprogramming card is available that contains ecm reprogramming data for all models/engine/transmission configurations affected by this campaign. • the exhaust pre-catalyst will be tested to determine if the pre-catalyst needs to be replaced. • the exhaust pre-catalyst will be inspected to determine if more extensive repairs are needed, that, for a limited number of vehicles, may include engine replacement. • installation of new heat shields on the exhaust system for vehicles with pnc code r3007, r3014 and r3016. Note: for vehicles with pnc code r3015 and r3017 new heat shields are not required. Do not use a visual inspection to determine the need for new heat shields, use the pnc code. Use the “repair flow chart” in the service procedure to determine the complete repair procedures for a specific vehicle.

If you confirm: when starting the engine, it cranks longer than 3 seconds before it starts. Action: install the fuel pump repair kit (listed in the parts information).Service procedure 1. Remove the fuel pump/fuel level sensor/fuel filter assembly from the vehicle. • refer to section fl in the appropriate service manual (esm) for removal information. • follow all applicable service manual warnings and cautions. 2. Place the assembly in a clean working area. Caution: don’t get any dirt or other foreign material in any of the assembly parts. Disassemble 3. Disconnect the wires from the fuel level sensor. 4. Snap the fuel temperature sensor out of its mounting clip. 5. Carefully separate the flange from the chamber. • release the 2 side “hooks”. • one hook is shown in figure 1; the other is on the opposite side and is not visible in the picture. 6. Remove the chamber from the rest of the assembly. • set the chamber aside. You’ll be reusing it. 7. Carefully disconnect the fuel pump connector. • use a small flat blade screwdriver to unlock the connector. 8. Remove the spring. • set the spring aside. You’ll be reusing it.
9. Carefully remove the fuel pump bracket shown in figures 6 and 7. • you’ll need to release the “hooks”. See figure 7 for example. Caution: be careful; don’t damage the suction filter/pick-up screen. • there are 4 hooks. 2 are shown and 2 are on the other side (not shown). • push/pull on the bracket while unlocking the hooks with a small flat blade screwdriver. • set the fuel pump bracket aside. You’ll be reusing it. 10. Remove the support rubber from the bottom of the fuel pump and discard it. • the kit comes with a new one. Note: the support rubber may come off with the bracket in step 9. 11. Remove the fuel pump. A. Carefully push on the fuel pump connector as shown in figure 9. B. Then pull the fuel pump out. • set the fuel pump aside. You’ll be reusing it. 12. Once the fuel pump bracket and fuel pump have been removed, discard the flange and the filter/pressure regulator. 13. Open the fuel pump repair kit and remove the new parts. Caution: • don’t pull on the flexible tube of the new parts. • the flexible tube connections are a “press-fit” at both ends. • pulling on (stressing) these fittings may damage the connections. Assemble 14. Put the new support rubber (from the kit) in the fuel pump bracket. • reuse the original fuel pump bracket. 15. Put the new packing/seal (from the kit) in the pressure regulator receptacle. Note: if the old (original) packing is still in the receptacle, remove and discard it. 16. Place the new fuel pump packing (from the kit) on the fuel pump outlet as shown in figures 13 and 14. Note: if the old (original) packing is still on the fuel pump, remove and discard it. • make sure the packing is installed correctly, as shown in figure 14. 17. Place the fuel pump on the fuel pump bracket as shown. . 18. Carefully slide the fuel pump bracket with fuel pump onto the new filter/ pressure regulator. • make sure the pressure regulator slides into the bracket receptacle correctly. • make sure all 4 bracket hooks snap into place correctly. Caution: be careful; don’t push on the suction filter/pick-up screen.

1. Confirm the skyview roof glass needs to be replaced as follows: for vehicles with a production date of october 2003 or before: • replace the glass. Continue with step 2 of this procedure. For vehicles with a production date of november 2003 or december 2003: • replace the glass if the dots around the “carlex” name (located at the driver’s side rear corner of the glass) look like any one of the examples shown in figure 1. In this case continue with step 2 of this procedure. Front remove skyview roof glass caution: use suitable covers to protect upholstery, carpet, paint, etc. When performing this procedure. 2. Apply masking tape around the edges of the skyview roof glass (see figure 2). • this will help protect the body paint. • use scotch 3m safe-release painters’ masking tape #2090 (or equivalent). Skyview roof glass 3. Using a suitable windshield removal tool, carefully cut the adhesive around the skyview roof glass (see figure 3). Caution: be careful, don’t scratch painted areas, and don’t get the original adhesive on the headliner. Note: the windshield removal tool shown below is available from snap-on (#ya109a) and mac (#pk160a). Skyview roof glass tp040514 important: before removing the glass, take note of the nissan logo position on the glass. The new glass must be reinstalled with the logo in the same position (see figure 4).
Write “logo” on the masking tape at the driver’s side rear corner to help you remember the logo location. 4. Remove the skyview roof glass. Caution: use suitable eye and hand protection when performing the below procedure. 5. Destroy the original glass as follows: a. Put the original glass into the box that the new glass came in. B. Completely tape up all seams on the box. C. Hit the face of the box with a hammer until the glass shatters. D. Discard the box. 6. Use a plastic pry tool (j-46534 or equivelant) to remove the plastic glass clips from the vehicle body (see figure 5). Note: • the original glass may have 4 or 8 clips depending on when it was produced. • the new replacement glass only has 4 clips.

SERVICE PROCEDURE Use this illustration for reference while performing the Service Procedure. Items # 1 and # 8 will be replaced. CAUTION: Do not use any lubricant when removing or installing the air ducts and resonators. Lubricant may adversely affect the ducts and resonators. 1. Disconnect the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) hose from resonator 1. 2. Loosen the clamps shown in Figure 1 (clamps at both ends of the air duct assembly). 3. Remove the air duct assembly from the vehicle and set it on a clean working surface. 4. After removing the air duct assembly, cover the openings to the electronic control throttle and airflow meter with clean cloth / rags. CAUTION: • Make sure to cover the openings to the electronic control throttle and airflow meter. • Covering the openings will prevent debris entry. 5. Loosen both wire clamps shown in Figure 2 (clamps on both sides of resonator 1).
6. Replace the wire clamp on air duct B. a. Pull air duct B away from resonator 1 just enough to remove the old wire clamp and install a new one. • Bend the old wire clamp so it cannot be reused. b. Reconnect air duct B to resonator 1. CAUTION: Before installing air duct B, use a clean cloth / rag to wipe away any debris from the duct and resonator. • Make sure to align the resonator protrusion with the air duct cut out. 7. Disconnect / remove air duct A from resonator 1. Air duct B Wire clamp 8. Swap the band clamp from the old air duct A to the new air duct A. • Use the original band clamp. • Band clamp goes on the throttle body end of air duct A. • Make sure the clamp is aligned correctly (rubber stud through hole in clamp as shown). 9. Discard the old air duct A and the old wire clamp. • Cut the old air duct A in half and bend the wire clamp so they cannot be reused. 10. Put the new wire clamp on the resonator end of the new air duct A. CAUTION: Before installing air duct A, use a clean cloth / rag to wipe away any debris from the duct and resonator. 11. Connect the new air duct A to resonator 1. • Make sure the slot (cut-out) in the duct is aligned with the largest protrusion on the resonator. NOTE: There are 4 protrusions on the resonator, use the largest one to align the air duct. 12. Position and tighten both wire clamps (air duct A and air duct B). a. Position each wire clamp near the protrusion / cut out (see Figure 6). b. Tighten the clamps to: 2.2 – 3.0 N-m (0.22 – 0.30 kg-m, 20 – 26 in-lb).

If you confirm: a mil “on” with the following dtc(s) stored: • • p1031 / p1051 (a/f sensor heater), and/or p1148 / p1168 (a/f sensor closed loop control), actions: a. Confirm this bulletin applies: • check the current ecm part number (see page 2). • compare your current ecm part number to chart a on page 2. If that part number does not match one in chart a, this bulletin does not apply. Go back to asist for further diagnostic and repair information. B. Reprogram the ecm (see page 3). C. 1. Drain engine oil. 2. Release fuel pressure. 3. Drain coolant by removing cylinder block drain plugs and radiator drain cock. NOTE: Do not spill engine coolant on drive belts. 4. Remove left side ornament cover. 5. Remove air duct to intake manifold, collector, blow-by hose, vacuum hoses, fuel hoses, wires, harness and connectors. 6. Remove the following: Vacuum hoses Water hoses EVAP canister purge hose Blow-by hose 7. Remove RH and LH ignition coils. 8. Remove EGR guide tube. 9. Remove intake manifold collector supports and intake manifold collector (RH cylinder head only). 10. Remove fuel tube assembly. NOTE: Do not disassemble fuel tube assembly. 11. Remove intake manifold in reverse order of installation. 12. 13. 14. 15. Remove RH and LH rocker covers from cylinder head. Remove engine undercover. Remove front RH wheel and engine side cover. Remove drive belts and idler pulley bracket. 16. Remove power steering oil pump belt and power steering oil pump assembly. 17. Remove Camshaft Position Sensor (PHASE) and Crankshaft Position Sensors (REF)/(POS) .

If you confirm the manual a/c system temperature control will not operate. Actions remove and inspect the a/c control. • if the temperature control cable and/or the a/c control attachment point for the cable are damaged, replace both. If the above are not damaged, and only the temperature control lever is damaged, replace only the temperature control lever. • service procedure temperature control cable and a/c control inspection 1. Remove the a/c control per the 2002 altima esm, section mtc. 2. Inspect the temperature control cable. If there is any damage such as kinks, stress areas, etc. Go to temperature control cable and a/c control replacement. 3. Inspect the a/c control. If there is any damage to cable attaching retainer, go to temperature control cable and a/c control replacement. Note: if there is no damage to either the cable or a/c control, and only the temperature control lever is damaged, go to temperature control lever replacement. Temperature control lever replacement 1. Move the temperature control knob to the center position.
2. Remove the damaged temperature lever (be careful not to damage the cable). Insert a flat head screw driver in the position shown to carefully pry off the lever. 3. Note the position of the “key” on the gear and temperature lever. 4. Attach the cable to the new temperature control lever. 5. Install the temperature control lever to the a/c control. Be sure to match the “key” positions (see figure 5). 6. Confirm installation by turning the temperature control knob. The knob should be easy to turn. 7. Install the a/c control per the esm, section mtc. Temperature control cable and a/c control replacement 1. Attach the new temperature control cable and new a/c control. Note: the cable may only be installed to the a/c control one (1) time. Removing the cable from the a/c control will damage the cable and the a/c control feature. 2. Install the a/c control per the esm, section mtc.

If you confirm the idle, in park or neutral, is more than 25 rpm above specification (with the engine warm), and/or dtc p0507 (isc system) is stored, note: • this incident may be the result of recent cleaning or replacement of the throttle body. The vehicle “in-use” learned idle (iavl) may be higher after throttle body deposits are reduced (by cleaning or replacement). • if dtcs other than p0507 are stored, you must correct the cause for those dtcs first. After correcting other dtcs, if you still have a p0507 and/or an idle condition above specification, continue with this bulletin. Actions to reduce idle rpm, perform the following in this order until iavl successfully completes: 1. Check engine for vacuum leaks. 2. Perform iavl procedure. 3. For 2002 and 2003 models: check for newer ecm reprogramming data. If it’s available, perform reprogramming, then try iavl again. 2004 and 2005 models: skip this step. 4. Reduce idle speed manually: a. Disconnect injectors one at a time until iavl completes (see step 4 of the service procedure for details), b. Reconnect the injectors, clear dtcs, and perform final iavl. Service procedure note: after completing repairs in this procedure, make sure any stored dtcs are erased. 1. Make sure there are no engine vacuum leaks. Repair any vacuum leaks that are found. Make sure to check: • hoses • intake manifold • ducting between intake manifold and mafs 2. Perform idle air volume learning (iavl) procedure as follows. Note: the iavl procedure will normally complete within 2 minutes after procedure start. A. Make sure all dtcs are cleared (erased). B. Use consult-iI to confirm / perform the following pre-conditions: note:
the iavl procedure will self-cancel if any of the following pre-conditions are not met and maintained for as long as the procedure is running. C. Turn ignition switch “off” and wait at least 10 seconds. D. Start the engine and let it idle for at least 30 seconds. E. Using consult-ii, select work support > idle air vol learn. F. Touch start and wait 20 seconds to 2 minutes. • if “cmplt” is displayed on consult-iI screen; go to g, next step. • if “incmp” is displayed within 2 minutes, or test is not finished within 2 minutes, “idle air volume learning” was not carried out successfully; go to step h. G. Rev up the engine two or three times, then let the engine idle. Verify the idle speed is within specifications. Refer to the ec section of the appropriate service manual for specifications. If ok, procedure ends here. If not, go to step h. H. If iavl did not complete and you’re sure you: • set all of the preconditions exactly as shown in the chart above, and • performed steps a through f exactly as shown above. Go to step 3 on the next page.

“Reset” key using the joystick and push the “ENTER” button. To display the MAINTENANCE NOTICE, auto- matically when setting trip distance is reached, select the “Display Maintenance Notification” key and push the “ENTER” button. MAINTENANCE NOTICE The “MAINTENANCE NOTICE” screen (“EN- GINE OIL” or “TIRE ROTATION”) will be auto- matically displayed as shown when both of the following conditions are met: ¼ the vehicle is driven the set distance and the ignition switch is turned OFF. ¼ the ignition key is turned ON the next time the vehicle will be driven. To return to the previous display after the “MAINTENANCE NOTICE” screen is displayed, push the “PREV” button. The “MAINTENANCE NOTICE” screen displays each time the key is turned ON until one of the following conditions are met: ¼ “RESET” is selected. ¼ “Display Maintenance Notification” is set OFF. ¼ the maintenance interval is set again.
Tire pressure information (if so equipped) Pressure indication in ** psi on the screen indicates that the pressure is being measured. After a few driving trips, the pressure for each tire will be displayed randomly. The order of tire pressure figures displayed on the screen does not correspond with the actual order of the tire position. Tire pressure rises and falls depending on the heat caused by the vehicle’s traveling condition and the temperature. In case of low tire pressure, a message (FLAT 4-6 Display screen, heater, air conditioner and audio systems SAA1356 “Display” settings The DISPLAY SETTINGS screen will appear when selecting the “Display” key and pushing the “ENTER” button. Brightness/Contrast/Screen Background: To adjust the brightness and contrast of the screen, select the “Brightness/Contrast/Screen Background” key and push the “ENTER” button. Then you can adjust the brightness to Darker or Brighter, the contrast to Lower or Higher using the joystick.

Identifying Fuel Pump, Fuel Level Sensor Unit And Fuel Filter REMOVAL 1. Release fuel pressure from fuel line. Refer to FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE . 2. 3. 4. 5. Remove rear seat bottom. Remove inspection hole cover located under the rear seat. Disconnect electrical connector. Disconnect the quick connectors. For disconnection of quick connectors, refer to step 6 of “Fuel Tank Removal”. 6. Remove the six screws. 7. Pull out the fuel level sensor unit and fuel pump. Do not damage the arm of the fuel level sensor and fuel tank temperature sensor. 8. Remove flange of fuel level sensor unit and fuel pump. Using a screwdriver, remove the snap fit portion as shown in the figure. 9. Push fuel level sensor flange.
Using a screwdriver, remove the snap fit portion as shown in the figure. 10. Pull up the fuel level sensor. 11. Remove fuel filter from pump bracket. Using a screwdriver, remove the snap fit portion as shown in the figure. 12. Remove pressure regulator clip, then pull out pressure regulator. 13. Remove fuel pump, then push down the fuel pump as shown in the figure. 14. Remove packing from fuel pump. 15. Remove the pump support rubber from the fuel pump. INSTALLATION Install in the reverse order of removal paying attention to the following. Install the fuel filter and fuel pump with the tabs aligned, make sure a click sound of secure engagement is heard. Securely connect the harness connector of the fuel pump. Install the pressure regulator O-ring as follows. CAUTION: When replacing, always use a new O-ring, packing and clip. Handle it with bare hands. (Do not use gloves.) Visually check the O-ring, mounting parts and mating parts for foreign materials and flaws. Before installing, apply new engine oil. To avoid damage, do not apply an excessive force (pulling or starching). Install the pressure regulator as follows. a. Insert the clip to the groove of the regulator. b. With the clip installed, insert the regulator straight by matching the fuel filter protrusion and the clip notch. c. Make sure that the fuel filter protrusion and clip notch are securely engaged.

Measure the continuity between the abs actuator and electric unit (control unit) connector e125 and rear pressure sensor connector e32.

If you confirm: the transmission fluid is full (correct level) and in good condition (not burnt), and there is a harsh shift from 1st to 2nd gear, and/or dtc p0745 (line pressure solenoid circuit) is stored, actions: 1. Drain and remove the transmission oil pan. 2. Push/pull the ground terminal and wire for the solenoid valve assembly (see service procedure step 4 ). If it doesn’t come off, solder the terminal. If it does come off, replace the solenoid assembly. 3. After soldering, recheck the ground terminal and wire (see service procedure step 8 ). If it’s tight , repair is complete. If it’s loose , replace the solenoid assembly. Important: the purpose of “actions” (above) is to give you a quick idea of the work you will be performing.
You must closely follow the entire service procedure as it contains information that is essential to successfully completing this repair. Service procedure 1. Drain and remove the transmission oil pan. Refer to the at section in the appropriate service manual (esm) for oil pan removal instructions. 2. Locate the ground terminal for the line pressure solenoid. Fig. 1: locating line pressure solenoid ground terminal 3. Remove the bolt and small bracket holding the ground terminal. Fig. 2: removing bolt and small bracket holding ground terminal important: make sure the metal washer that sits on the rubber grommet doesn’t fall off. Fig. 3: identifying rubber grommet and metal washer 4. Make sure the ground terminal will not pull completely off of the wire. Use moderate force to pull / push the wire in and out of the terminal (no more than 5 lbs of pull force). A. If the terminal pulls completely off the wire with 5 lbs of pull force, replace the solenoid valve assembly (see parts information). Refer to the at section of the appropriate service manual (esm) for solenoid replacement. Skip to step 11 . Fig. 4: pulling ground terminal b. If the terminal does not pull completely off of the wire, go to step 5 and continue with this procedure. 5. Check the wire support crimp shown in fig. 5 .
If the support crimp is up as shown in fig. 5 , push it down as shown in fig. 5 . Fig. 5: checking wire support crimp 6. Completely wash the ground terminal with electrical contact cleaner and blow it dry. Important: if the atf is not completely cleaned off of the terminal, the solder will not stick correctly. Note: use a local source for electrical contact cleaner. Nissan trans cooler flush (999mp-am006p) may also be used to clean the terminal (see parts information). Fig. 6: identifying line pressure solenoid ground terminal important: you must solder the terminal. Do not attempt to tighten the terminal crimp by squeezing it with a crimp tool or pliers. 7. Apply heat and solder to the terminal as shown in fig. 3 . Apply solder to end of the crimp on the exposed wire strands. Use high quality thin rosin-core solder, such as radio shack item # 064-005e** or equivalent. ** 0.032″ dia., 2.5 oz, 60/40 (lead/tin), rosin-core solder.

WARNING: To avoid being scalded, never change the coolant when the GI engine is hot. —DRAINING ENGINE COOLANT— 1. Set air conditioner system as follows to prevent coolant from remaining in the system. a. Turn ignition switch ON and set temperature controller to maximum hot position. b. Wait 10 seconds before turning ignition switch OFF. 2. Open drain plug at the bottom of radiator and remove radia- tor cap. 3. Remove reservoir tank, drain coolant, then clean reservoir tank. 1. Install the Sealing Adapter (blue color adapter) onto the Fuel Sending Unit Connectors until it clicks (locks) in place. See Figure 33. CAUTION: When performing the following steps: • Use suitable protective gloves, safety glasses, or face shield. • Use suitable covers to protect carpet, upholstery, etc. 2. Shake the Protective Coating can #KY140-9Z400 to thoroughly mix the contents. 3. Spray the Protective Coating #KY140- 9Z400 through each Adapter Tube for about two seconds (see Figure 34). • You will need to attach the Adapter Tube onto the Protective Coating spray can nozzle. You do not have to wait for the Protective Coating to dry. Proceed to the next step. •
4. Apply Tectyl 517 Wax Sealer to the Fuel Sending Unit Mounting Flange area. Make sure the area is clean and dry before applying the Tectyl 517. 5. Remove/discard the Sealing Adapter. NOTE: • When you remove the Sealing Adapter, one or both of the connector inserts may come out of the Adapter. • Make sure you remove the insert(s) from the Fuel Sending Unit connector(s). 6. Re-connect the Fuel Sending Unit Harness Connectors, making sure they are securely locked into position. 7. Re-assemble all previously removed components in the reverse order you removed them. • Tighten the Fuel Sending Unit Inspection Cover Bolts snug, being careful not to strip out the plastic inserts. Tighten the Body Cover Plate Bolts to 3.7 – 5.0 N-m (0.38 – 0.51 kg-m, 33.0 – 44.3 in-lb). • 8. Start the vehicle and confirm proper engine running and fuel gauge operation.

WARNING: • Before performing any of the Service Procedures below, be certain there are no ignition sources (i.e., open flames, sparks, etc.) in or around the vehicle/work area. • Make sure the appropriate rated fire extinguisher is available for immediate use. • Use suitable protective gloves, safety glasses, or face shield. CAUTION: Use suitable covers to protect carpet, upholstery, etc. NOTE: The Fuel Sending Unit that you remove from the vehicle may look different from the new replacement service part (see Figure 43).
1. If the fuel tank is more than ¾ full, use a suitable device to remove fuel from the fuel tank until the fuel level is ¾ full or less. 2. Release the fuel pressure from the fuel system using CONSULT-II (or other suitable method). Follow the procedure in the “EC” section of the Service Manual. 3. Remove the Fuel Sending Unit as follows: a. First, use shop air to clean the area around the Fuel Sending Unit and Mounting Flange (see Figure 35). b. Then, apply Rust Penetrant (999MP-A3020P) to the Fuel Sending Unit Mounting Flange Bolts (see Figure 36). Allow the penetrant to “soak” for a few minutes. c. Using hand tools ONLY, gently remove the Fuel Sending Unit Mounting Flange Bolts.

CAUTION: Use suitable covers to protect carpet, upholstery, paint, etc. when performing this procedure. 1. Remove the rear, passenger-side, bottom Seat Cushion as follows: a. Pull on the Seat Cushion Release Straps while lifting UP on the front edge of the Seat Cushion (see Figure 23). b. Remove the Cushion and place it in a clean, safe location. 2. Remove four Bolts and remove the Body Cover Plate (see Figure 24). 3. Remove three Bolts and lift the Fuel Sending Unit Inspection Cover UP (see Figure 25). 4. Disconnect the Fuel Sending Unit Connectors (see Figure 26). 5. Install the Connector Cover onto the Fuel Sending Unit Connectors until it is fully seated. See Figure 27. 6. Use the Nylon Brush #J-47239 to loosen/remove dirt and debris on the vertical surface of the Fuel Sending Unit Connectors (see Figure 28). NOTE: If needed, you can bend the Brush to better reach the vertical surfaces. 7. Remove the Connector Cover once you’re done with the above step.

The headlamp is a semi-sealed beam type which uses a replaceable halogen bulb. The bulb can be replaced from the engine compartment side without removing the headlamp body. Grasp only the plastic base when handling the bulb. Never touch the glass envelope. Disconnect the battery cable. Disconnect the harness connector from the back side of the headlamp bulb. Turn the bulb retaining ring counterclockwise and remove. Remove the bulb by pulling it straight out of the headlamp assembly. Do not shake the bulb when removing it. 5. Install in the reverse order of removal. 1. 2. 3. 4. CAUTION: Do not leave headlamp reflector without bulb for a long period of time.
