Auto Repair 1997 Ford F 150/250 Rear Drum Brake Shoes and Linings Replacement

Elimination 1 . Remove the rear brake drums , see the procedures in this section . 2 . NOTE: The number of little fluid is almost always present and acts as a lubricant for the piston . Check the wheel cylinders for excessive leakage . 3 . Check: 1 . Rear brake shoe and lining ( 2200 ) for contamination . 2 . Rear brake shoe lining thickness and a minimum . 3 . Springs for heat discoloration and distortion . Replace components if necessary . 4 . Brake cylinder clamp . 5 . Remove the brake shoe springs repeal ( 2296) . 6 . Remove the brake shoe adjuster assembly . 1 . Remove the brake shoe adjusting lever spring . 2 . Remove the brake shoe adjustment lever . 3 . Remove the brake shoe adjusting lever spring . 4 . 5 . 6 . 7 . 8 . Remove the brake shoe adjusting lever cable guide ( 2A179 ) . Remove the brake shoe adjusting lever cable ( 2A178 ) . Remove the brake shoe anchor pin guide plate ( 2028 ) . Remove the brake shoe adjusting screw spring ( 2049) . Remove the brake adjuster screw assembly . 7 . Remove the main link brake shoe parking brake lever ( 2A642 ) and the parking brake link spring ( 2A601 ) . 8 . Remove the rear brake shoe and lining . 1 . Remove the brake shoe hold-down springs . 2 . Remove the rear brake shoe and lining . 3 . Remove the brake shoe hold-down spring pin ( 2069 ) . 9 . Release the parking brake lever ( 2A637 ) from behind the secondary brake shoe and lining .

Installation 1 . Clean and lubricate the brake backing plate ( 2211 ) . Use Premium Long - Life Grease XG - 1 - C or C - or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESA - B M1C75 or Silicone Brake Caliper Grease and Dielectric Compound , D7AZ - 19A331 - A , WA - 10 or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESE - M1C171 - A . 2 . Connect the parking brake lever to the rear and a secondary brake shoe lining . 3 . Install the rear brake shoe and lining . 1 . The position of the rear brake shoe and lining . 2 . Install the brake shoe hold-down pin spring and brake shoe hold-down spring ( 2068 ) . 4 . Install the brake shoe parking brake lever and the main link spring parking brake link . 5 . Install the brake shoe pull out the main spring ( short ) . 1 . Install the brake shoe anchor pin guide plate . 2 . Place the brake shoe adjusting lever cable over the anchor pin with the flat side entry 3 . Install the brake shoe pull out the main spring ( short ) . 6 . NOTE : Make sure the brake shoe adjusting lever cable is positioned in the cable guide groove . Install the brake shoe repeal secondary spring . 1 . Install the brake shoe adjusting lever cable guide . 2 . Place the brake shoe adjusting lever cable around the brake shoe adjusting the cable guide groove . 3 . Install the brake shoe repeal secondary spring ( length ) . 7 . NOTE : To prevent incorrect installation , socket end of each brake adjuster screw labeled R or L. Assemble the brake adjuster screw assembly . 1 . Apply Silicone Brake Caliper Grease and Dielectric Compound D7AZ - 19A331 - A or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESE - M1C171 - A . 2 . Install ( A ) brake adjuster screw in ( B ) brake shoe adjusting screw nut ( 2047 ) until the end of the thread and then loosen one half turn . 3 . Put the socket adjustment screw nut on the brake shoe adjustment .
