Repairing Manual 2003–2009 Toyota 4Runner HVAC Control Panel Illumination Dim

4Runner vehicles may exhibit a condition where the HVAC control panel illumination is dim, flickering, or intermittently inoperative. A newly designed light bulb has been made available to resolve this concern. Repair Procedure 1. Confirm that the customer’s concern is of a dim, flickering, or intermittently inoperative HVAC illumination panel in the area shown in Figure 1. 2. Remove the air conditioning control assembly. Refer to the Technical Information System (TIS), applicable model year 4Runner Repair Manual: • 2003 / 2004 / 2005 4Runner: Vehicle Interior – Heating/Air Conditioning – “Air Conditioning Control Assy: Overhaul” 3. Replace the 2 light bulbs for the HVAC control panelillumination circuit. (Refer to Figure 2.)

Using a small flat blade screwdriver, turn the light bulbs counter clockwise to remove and clockwise to install/tighten. Figure 2. Back Side of HVAC Control Panel 4. Install the air conditioning control assembly. Confirm the HVAC Control Panel Illumination and Controls are operating correctly.
