Turn the ignition switch to on position. Shift the selector lever to r position. Verify that the ignition key cannot be turned to lock position. Shift the selector lever to p position. Verify that the ignition key can be turned to lock position. If a malfunction is found, perform the instrument cluster input/output check mode. See input/output check mode . Key interlock solenoid inspection continuity inspection 1. 2. 3. 4. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the screws, then remove the column cover. Disconnect the key interlock solenoid connector. Inspect for continuity between terminals a and b. If there is no continuity, replace the key cylinder. Fig. 15: identifying key interlock solenoid connector terminals 5. Connect the key interlock solenoid connector. 6. Install the column cover. 7. Connect the negative battery cable. Key interlock resistor inspection resistance inspection 1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. 2. Disconnect the key interlock resistor connector. 3. Inspect for resistance between terminals a and b. If not correct, replace the key interlock resistor. See key interlock resistor removal/installation . 5. Connect the negative battery cable. Key interlock resistor removal/installation 1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. 2. Disconnect the key interlock resistor connector. 4. Install the key interlock resistor. 5. Connect the key interlock resistor connector. 6. Connect the negative battery cable.
