download
SYMPTOM The air cleaner cover cannot be removed because the air cleaner case is cracked, allowing the nuts to spin freely in the nut tabs. PROBABLE CAUSE High under-hood temperature and excessive torque on the air cleaner cover bolts. CORRECTIVE ACTION Replace the air cleaner case and cover. Do not reuse the old cover. REPAIR PROCEDURE 1. Disconnect the connector from the IAT sensor. 2. Remove the three assembly mounting bolts. 3. Loosen the clamp holding the air cleaner to the throttle body. Remove the air cleaner assembly. 4. Remove the breather tube and clamp from the old air cleaner case. 5. Install the breather tube and clamp to the new air cleaner case, then install the air cleaner case on the vehicle. 6. Install the air cleaner element. If you are not able to reuse the original element because you cannot separate the cover from the case, install a new element. 7. Install the new air cleaner cover, and reconnect the IAT sensor.
