Auto Repairing 2000–2002 Honda Accord MIL Comes On With DTC P1164
SYMPTOM The MIL comes on with DTC P1164 (air/fuel ratio sensor performance problem). PROBABLE CAUSE Specific driving conditions may cause the ECM/PCM to incorrectly interpret sensor inputs, setting DTC P1164. CORRECTIVE ACTION Do the DIAGNOSIS to determine the part number of the ECM/PCM. Then do REPAIR PROCEDURE A or REPAIR PROCEDURE B as indicated. As applicable, replace the air/fuel ratio sensor (sensor 1) and replace the ECM/PCM. DIAGNOSIS Before beginningrepair work, note the year, model, transmission type, and emissions group of the vehicle you are working on. To find theemissions type, compare the under-hood emissions control label to the text below.
REPAIR PROCEDURE A Replace the air/fuel ratio sensor (sensor 1). REPAIR PROCEDURE B 1. 1998–2000 ULEV models only – Replace the air/ fuel ratio sensor (sensor 1). 2. Replace the ECM/PCM. Refer to service bulletin 00-049, Immobilizer System (Type 2). • For 1998–99 models, you need all of the working ignition keys. • For 2000–02 models, download the immobilizer transponder codes to the HDS before replacing the ECM/PCM.
