Auto Repair 1994 Ford Pickup F150 Hubs & Bearings Replacement
Removal ( Bronco & F150/250 With Manual Locking Hubs ) 1 . Raise and support the front of the vehicle . Remove the front wheel . Remove locking hub . See the article LOCKING hub . Remove caliper with brake lines and wires attached side , with no strain on the brake hose . 2 . Remove hub bearing lock nut , lock ring and adjusting nut . Using Spanner Lock Nut Wrench ( T86T - 1197 - A ) , remove the nut . Remove the hub and rotor . Outer bearing will slide off the hub . Remove the grease seal and inner bearing . If
the bearings require replacement , remove the race from the hub with
Internal Puller ( T77F - 1102 - A ) and the attached slide hammer . Installation & Adjustment ( Bronco & F150/250 With Manual Locking Hubs ) 1 . If the pads are replaced , driving race NEW to the hub . Lubricate the bearings with grease wheel bearings multipurpose lithium base . Install the bearing and seal into the hub . 2 . Install the hub and rotor assemble the spindle .
Install the outer bearing and adjusting nut . Using a torque wrench and a Spanner Lock Nut Wrench ( T86T - 1197 - A ) tighten the adjusting nut to 70 ft. lbs . ( 95 Nm ) while turning the wheel back and forth . 3 . Applying pressure to the inner lock nut key lock to release the locking splines , backward adjusting nut approximately 1/4 turn ( 90 degrees ) . Retighten adjusting nut 15-20 ft lbs . ( 20-27 N.m ) . Check the hub and rotor assembly end play . End play should be zero . To complete the installation , reverse the removal procedure . Using Spanner Lock Nut Wrench ( T85T - 1197 - A ) , remove the nut . Remove the hub and rotor . Outer bearing will slide off the hub . Remove the grease seal and inner bearing . If the bearings require replacement , remove the race from the hub using the internal Puller ( T77F - 1102 - A ) and the attached slide hammer .
Installation & Adjustment ( Bronco & F150 with Dana 44 IFS & Automatic Locking Hubs & F250 HD With Dana 50 IFS ) 1 . If the pads are replaced , driving race NEW to the hub . Install the bearing and seal into the hub . Install the hub on the spindle . Install the outer bearing and adjusting nut . 2 . Using key lock nut wrench , tighten the inner locknut to 50 ft. lbs . ( 68 N.m ) . Backward and retighten the locknut to 30-40 ft. lbs . ( 41-54 N.m ) . While rotating hub , backward inner lock nut 1/4 turn ( 90 degrees ) . 3 . Install the lock washer so the key is positioned to the spindle groove . Rotate the inner lock nut so that the pin hole parallel to the nearest lock washer . Install and tighten the outer locknut to 160-205 ft. lbs . ( 217-278 N.m ) . Check the hub and rotor assembly end play . End play should be 0-.004 " ( 0 to 0.10 mm ) . To complete the installation , reverse the removal procedure .
