Fuel filter is incorporated into the fuel pressure regulator. See fig. 45 . A separate frame mounted fuel filter is not used. For servicing of fuel filter/fuel pressure regulator, see fuel filter/fuel pressure regulator . Fuel pressure regulator removal & installation fuel pressure regulator is incorporated with the fuel filter. See fig. 45 . For servicing for fuel filter/fuel pressure regulator, see fuel filter/fuel pressure regulator . Fuel pump removal & installation fuel pump is incorporated into the fuel pump module. See fuel pump module . Fuel pump inlet strainer note: fuel filter and fuel pump inlet strainer (inlet filter) are designed for extended service and do not require normal scheduled maintenance.
Fuel pump inlet strainer is mounted on fuel pump module. See fig. 15 or fig. 17 . The fuel pump module is located inside of fuel tank. Removal 1. Remove fuel tank. See fuel tank . Remove fuel pump module. See fuel pump module . 2. On 2-door models, spread locking tabs on bottom of fuel pump module and remove fuel pump inlet strainer from fuel pump module. See fig. 48 . On 4-door models, use 2 screwdrivers to unsnap fuel pump inlet strainer from bottom of fuel pump module. See fig. 49 . On all models, remove “o” ring from end of fuel pump module if “o”ring was not removed with fuel pump inlet strainer. Clean bottom of pump module. 1. Snap new filter to bottom of module. Be sure “o” ring is in correct position.
2. Install fuel pump module. See fuel pump module . Install fuel tank. See fuel tank . Fuel tank removal (all 4-door models, or 2-door models without orvr system) warning: the fuel system is under a constant pressure (even with the engine off). Before draining fuel tank, fuel system pressure must be released. See fuel system pressure release . The fuel tank cannot be drained through the fill or vent fittings at the top of the fuel tank. Two different procedures may be used to drain fuel tank (using an approved gasoline draining station, or using the drb scan tool along with an approved gasoline draining station). Draining is done from the disconnected fuel line, at the fuel rail, with either procedure. 1. Disconnect negative battery cable at battery. Disconnect quick-connect fuel line at fuel rail. See fuel line disconnect fittings . 2. The hose from the gasoline draining station must be adapted into the 5/16″ disconnect fitting on disconnected fuel line. One way to accomplish this is to obtain a 5/16″ test fitting such as from snap-on (r) fuel injection adapter set (fida44). Snap the fitting into the disconnected fuel line and attach hose from gasoline draining station.
