2002 Saturn L100 Timing Chain Replacement
Remove exhaust camshaft sprocket and discard bolt. 7. Remove adjustable
timing chain guide. 8. Remove fixed timing chain guide access plug. 9.
Remove fixed timing chain guide. NOTE: The camshaft sprocket bolt is
not reusable, it is a Torque-To-Yield (TTY) bolt, and must be discarded
to prevent premature failure. 10. Remove intake camshaft sprocket and
discard bolt. 11. Remove timing chain through top of cylinder head.
12. Remove timing chain drive sprocket from crankshaft. 13. Remove
timing chain oiling nozzle. NOTE: 14. Inspect the timing chain guides
for cracking or wear. NOTE: Replace timing chain guides if wear
exceeds 1.12 mm (0.045 in.). Replace the timing chain tensioner shoe if
wear exceeds 1.12 mm (0.045 in.). 15. Inspect the timing chain
tensioner shoe for wear. 16. Inspect the timing chain and sprockets
for wear. 17. Inspect the camshaft sprocket faces for signs of
movement. 18. Inspect camshaft sprocket teeth and chain for signs of
excessive wear, chipping, or seizure of timing chain links.
