2001 Mazda Millenia S Dashboard Removal & Installation

1. Disable air bag system. See AIR BAG SYSTEM SAFETY article in GENERAL SERVICING. Obtain anti-theft radio code from owner before servicing vehicle. Disconnect negative battery cable. 2. Using taped flat-blade screwdriver, carefully pry at rear of center panel to release 2 clips. Pull center panel forward to remove 2 more clips and release locator pins. Remove ashtray and shifter trim ring. Disconnect electrical connectors. Remove 2 screws from hand brake boot. Remove rear console screws. Remove hand brake boot and rear console. 3. Remove dashboard undercovers. Remove right side panel. Using long screwdriver, remove glove box screw and glove box. Remove upper and lower steering column covers. Tilt down steering shaft. Remove panel light control switch and hole cover. Remove instrument cluster screws. 4. Ensure steering wheel is in straight-ahead position. Remove driver-side air bag module.

Remove panel light control switch and hole cover. Remove instrument cluster screws. 4. Ensure steering wheel is in straight-ahead position. Remove driver-side air bag module.
Remove steering wheel lock
nut, and remove steering wheel. Disconnect combination switch harness
connector. Remove screw and combination switch. Remove passenger-side
air bag module. 5. Pull instrument cluster bezel forward to disengage
clips. Disconnect harness connectors from instrument cluster bezel.
Remove security light bulb and socket. Remove instrument cluster bezel.
Remove instrument cluster screws, and disconnect remaining harness
connectors. Remove instrument cluster. 6. Remove steering shaft. Remove
hood release knob. Remove left side panel. Remove center panel side
covers. Pull dashboard up and forward. Disconnect harness connectors and
remove dashboard. To install, reverse removal procedure. EVAPORATOR
UNIT Removal 1. Disable air bag system. See AIR BAG SYSTEM SAFETY
article in GENERAL SERVICING. Discharge A/C system, using approved
refrigerant recovery/recycling equipment. 2. Remove dashboard undercover
and glove box. Remove glove box stay. Remove passenger-side air bag
module. Remove compressor manifold-to-evaporator refrigerant line and
hose. Remove aspirator hose. 3. Disconnect power transistor (MOS FET)
harness connector. Disconnect evaporator temperature sensor harness
connector and remove evaporator unit. To remove evaporator and expansion
valve, disassemble evaporator unit. See Fig. 26 . If removing expansion
valve, note location of heat sensing tube for installation reference.
Installation To install, reverse removal procedure. When installing new
parts, add refrigerant oil through high-pressure side of compressor. If
installing new evaporator, add 1.7 ounces of refrigerant oil. If
installing new refrigerant line or hose, add 0.3 ounce of refrigerant
oil. Evacuate, charge, and leak test A/C system.
