1997 Subaru Legacy L Shift Solenoids, Duty Solenoids & Valve Body Removal Installation

Removal 1. Drain fluid and remove oil pan and gasket. Before disconnecting 4 wiring harness connectors at duty and shift solenoids, note shape of connectors and/or wire colors going to appropriate solenoids. Remove 2 Black and 4 Yellow bolts retaining oil pipe, harness bracket and oil filter. 2. Remove filter and oil pipe. Remove 6 Black and 11 Yellow valve body attaching bolts. Remove valve body and accumulator springs. Remove shift solenoid assembly and duty solenoids “A” and “B” from valve body. See Fig. 4 . Installation 1. Install duty solenoid “B” to valve body. Hand tighten 2 inner bolts to secure solenoid. Install shift solenoid assembly and duty solenoid “A” to valve body. Secure accumulator springs to valve body with assembly lube. 2. Align manual valve with linkage and install valve body to transaxle with Black and Yellow bolts. Install and tighten remaining duty solenoid bolts. Install oil filter, oil pipe, harness bracket and reconnect harness. Secure connectors to valve body. Install oil pan and gasket. Add and check fluid level.

Align manual valve with linkage and install valve body to transaxle with Black and Yellow bolts. Install and tighten remaining duty solenoid bolts. Install oil filter, oil pipe, harness bracket and reconnect harness. Secure connectors to valve body. Install oil pan and gasket. Add and check fluid level.
